Peter Obi addresses concerns on Labour Party’s presidential campaign list

The presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that an updated list of the party’s presidential campaign council (PCC) would be released in due course.

He said this in a personally-signed Friday statement reacting to misgivings on the 1,234-member list released on Wednesday.

Some supporters of the Labour Party candidate had faulted the composition of the list.

Obi said, “I’ve received several calls of concern following the release of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council list.

“Admittedly, there were some omissions and erroneous entries in the list, hence the concerns expressed.

“In response, the Labour Party Chairman in the presence of members of the NWC (National Working Committee) addressed the issues during a press conference.

“In keeping with our commitment to accountability, responsiveness and transparency, an updated list will be issued in due course. I plead for patience.”

On Thursday, the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, admitted that there were mistakes in the composition of the campaign team.

Abure spoke shortly after the party’s emergency meeting held to address the backlash that trailed the inclusion of some names as well as the exclusion of certain candidates nominated by members of its NWC in the PCC.

“Our attention has been drawn to some errors of omission and wrongful inclusions in the Presidential Campaign Council list released by the party yesterday. The party is making efforts to correct all these anomalies.

“We appeal to those affected to please await the redress we are currently strenuously working on. We will publish an updated version of the Presidential Campaign Council list shortly,” Abure said.
