A man in Connecticut has been sentenced to jail for cutting his pet fish in half during a dispute which occurred in his home.
According to the Police, the 33-year-old man who was accused of breaching peace pleaded guilty before the court.
Following the plea, the man, Juan Vega, was sentenced to 120 days behind bars.
The sentence came after the court dropped the charge of cruelty against animals as part of the plea deal made with the accused.
Police report indicated that the cruelty was called in by a woman who claimed there was a case of domestic disturbance at a Bristol home in April.
Vega was reported to have argued with a woman and damaged properties at the residence part of which was the woman’s 9-year-old son’s pet, a betta fish.
The prosecuting counsel during the hearing further stated that the incident “really did traumatize” the child.
