Personnel audit in schools not for taxation – UBEC

2 Min Read

The Universal Basic Education Commission, (UBEC) on Wednesday debunked the rumour that the on-going personnel audit exercise in public and private primary schools was for taxation.

Dr Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of UBEC made the clarification when he visited the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board to monitor the on-going exercise.

Bobboyi said that the exercise, being carried out throughout the federation in collaboration with SUBEBs and other stakeholders, was not connected with taxation.

He said that the exercise was strictly to have a database for effective planning, and would be used to further develop education in the country.

The executive secretary said planning was crucial to ensure up-to-date data that would stand the test of time.

He said that focus had been on public schools previously, but the commission, this time, included private schools in order to have an accurate database.

In his remark, the Chairman, Governing Board of UBEC, Dr Mahmood Muhammed, said his team was in Lagos to assess the situation and get first-hand information concerning the audit exercise.

He expressed the belief that Lagos, being a ‘Centre of Excellence’, has the capacity to nip any challenge arising from the exercise in the bud.

Welcoming the team, the Executive Chairman, Lagos SUBEB, Dr Ganiyu Sopeyin, urged all stakeholders involved in the exercise to fully cooperate with the commission.

Sopeyin appealed to all personnel of SUBEB to ensure that they were captured in the database. (NAN)
