Personal beef made IGP order me to leave Edo on eve of guber poll – Wike

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has disclosed how the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu ordered him to leave Edo State a day before the gubernatorial election in the state.

He disclosed this in an appearance on Channels Television‘s Sunrise Daily on Friday.

Recall that Wike was the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council in the election.

The campaign boss stated that the IGP called him on the telephone and ordered him to leave Edo immediately on Friday, September 18.

He said he queried why he was being ordered to leave when Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, both of APC, were not given the same order.

According to the governor, the IGP’s order was borne out of personal beef.

Wike said the IGP was angry with him because he ordered the Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Emmanuel C. Aguma, to challenge a deduction from the state’s federal allocation which was remitted to the Police Trust Fund.

He stated that the IGP was also angry that he blocked the arrest of former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joi Nunieh.

The governor said he did not regret blocking the abduction-like arrest, saying it was wrong for the police to attempt arresting Nunieh on the same day that she was to give evidence at the National Assembly on ongoing probe into the NDDC.
