PepsiCo Incorporated has announced it is going into a partnership with an undisclosed licensing partner to market a range of mobile phones and phone accessories in China.
According to a company source, the smartphones will not have high-end specifications but the specs will be decent enough for users and will be rolled out in the next few months.
Nigerians should not get too excited however as the smartphones are “Available in China only,” the PepsiCo spokeswoman said. “This effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories.”
PepsiCo already has many licensees across a number of categories. Last year, it tied up with companies such as Danish luxury stereo and TV maker Bang & Olufsen and Italian shoemaker Del Toro for a range of products for its football campaign, Reuters reported.
“Pepsi has always moved at the speed of culture, and today technology is a key cultural pillar at the heart of consumer interaction.
“Pepsi has no plans to get into the mobile phone manufacturing business, but we are committed to engaging with consumers in innovative ways to grow our brand. We’ll share more news as it becomes available,” she stressed.
