The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) look likely to call of their strike following a meeting with representatives of the government.
According to Thisday the meeting was held in the office of Ibe Kachikwu, state minister of petroleum and it was reported that all the issues regarding the reasons for the strike were resolved bar one.
It is now believed that the oil workers will back down once their last grouse is addressed by minister of labour Chris Ngige in a meeting tomorrow.
While the meeting on Monday was smooth, it would not bring an immediate end to the strike as the matter will first be tabled before their National Executive Council (NEC) tomorrow after the meeting with Ngige and the oil companies.
It is expected that a decision on the fate of the strike will be reached after their NEC meeting tomorrow.
Chris Ngige is optimistic though as he expects the oil workers to be reasonable. He said “We had a wonderful meeting, a good meeting and we provided PENGASSAN the information on the various issues that needed clarification.”
More details will be provided later as the matter unfolds.
