PDP Structure Is Too Big To Be Hijacked By Any Single Governor – Wike

2 Min Read

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dispelled insinuations that he has singlehandedly hijacked the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying no single governor could be strong enough to do so.

Wike added that no governor could finance the entire party alone or control the PDP structure in another state.

“All governors are equal in the party. There is no single governor that can finance a political party as big as the PDP,” he said over the weekend.

The governor also expressed surprise at former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s interest in goings-on in the party, saying he should leave the party alone since he is no longer a member.

In the same vein, the governor accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of not doing enough to assure Nigerians that it was ready to conduct a free and fair 2019 general elections.

Wike urged the commission to move beyond mere rhetoric and show concrete steps of its preparedness.

The governor said that INEC should signify its readiness to conduct a free and fair election in 2019 by investigating alleged printing of fake INEC result sheets by the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the state.

He charged the commission to further explain how the police got original result sheets with same serial  number of the Rivers East Senatorial District election, where INEC declared Senator George Sekibo winner, only for the police to tender a different result, relied upon  by the court  to declare APC winner in that election.
