The senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce has advised Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the call in the aftermath of a recent face-off between the governor and President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ortom had blamed the president for allegedly not doing enough to curb herdsmen killings in his state.
No fewer than 73 people were killed in Guma and Logo LGAs of the state on New Year’s Day.
As a form of protest, Ortom had refused to personally attend the reception thrown for Buhari by Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura on Tuesday, saying he could not abandon his people that were being “killed”.
In a statement Wednesday, Murray-Bruce had “endorsed” Ortom’s refusal to attend the reception.
In a Thursday evening tweet via his verified Twitter handle, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator urged the governor to abandon the APC, saying Ortom had not benefitted anything from the party to justify his continued stay.
He tweeted, “What is Governor Ortom still doing in the APC? Benue and Ortom dont belong in the APC? Has the APC President visited him to condole with the state? How many APC Governors have contributed to help the victims? What benefit has Ortom and Benue derived from voting for the President?”
