PDP Says No To Professional Presidential Aspirants Ahead Of 2019 Polls

2 Min Read

The Peoples Democratic Party in its bid to reclaim power lost to the All Progressive Congress, the one-time biggest party in Africa has shut its doors against members it described as professional presidential aspirants.

However, the partyhas said those seeking the party’s presidential ticket for the 2019 general election must have contributed immensely to the party.

The party said it would stop those who were only interested in seeking positions and had been moving from one party to the other to realise their ambition.

The Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin, who stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, said aspiring individuals for the party’s presidential ticket would be assessed strictly on performance.

He insisted that the party would not open its doors to those he said could come and further destablise it.

Jibrin said, “We want people who are devoted to the principles and ideals of the PDP and who are ready to serve the masses, rather than those pursuing individual ambitions.

“Where you have self-seeking individuals fighting to get the party’s ticket, it would not serve the interest of the PDP because even the electorate would be careful before voting for candidates.

“So nobody should destroy the party through personal ambitions, particularly in the contest for presidential ticket. We must see their contributions first.

“We don’t want those who personal ambition has taken to different political parties. They move from one party to the other because of their ambition. We don’t want professional aspirants.”
