Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has claimed that the negotiations that led to the release of the 344 Kankara boys was carried out exclusively by Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.
Like Matawalle, Fani-Kayode is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Herald had reported that the students of GovernmentScience Secondary School (GSSS) were kidnapped on Friday, December 11, and released on Thursday, December 17.
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari said prior to the release that the bandits responsible were negotiating the boys’ freedom through the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

He also told the BBC that the students were being held in a forest in Zamfara.
In a Friday tweet, Fani-Kayode said that Matawalle negotiated the release alone.
“When my brother @Bellomatawalle1 told me at 8.00 pm last night that the kidnapped schoolboys from Katsina had been freed he did not tell me that he was solely responsible for their release and that he had single-handedly persuaded the terrorists to let them go. Proud of him!” the ex-minister stated.
However, the controversial ex-minister did not reveal how he got the information.
