An elderly patient in the United States on Thursday shot a popular New Orleans doctor to death before turning the gun on himself and blowing his own head off.
The patient, 73-year-old John P. Thomas, shot the 75-year-old Dr Elbert Goodier III in his hospital office.
After a single bullet to the head of the doctor, Thomas reportedly walked across to a restaurant opposite the scene of the shooting.
According to CNN, Thomas turned the gun on himself when he spotted officers approaching the restaurant and was pronounced dead on the scene.
While motive could not be established, the local police department’s office said Thomas was a patient of the popular urologist.
The police statement also said that Thomas had no criminal record and quoted his family as saying that he suffered from a mental illness that was not disclosed.
