The General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said he fasted and prayed for 14 days to reverse a prophecy that he would become a pastor.
He said that this was due to the general poverty among RCCG pastors at the time.
Adeboye, who holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics, disclosed this on Sunday at a special programme of the church, Daily Independent reported.
According to the respected cleric, “in those days nobody wants to become a pastor in RCCG, those days because to become a pastor is to be sentenced to poverty and I had known poverty for the first eighteen years of my life with no shoes”.

Adeboye, who also marked his 40th year as RCCG’s General Overseer, thanked God for the journey so far.
“I want to thank God for what He has done for the past 40 years and as the saying goes, life is just beginning for me and my wife.”
Lauding his wife, Pastor Mrs Folu Adeboye, for standing by him through it all, the cleric noted, “God gave me the best woman in the world and if your wife is better than mine, that means she is not a human being. God knows I wouldn’t have not been able to do this work without my wife.
“I also want to thank God for my father in the Lord, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, he was a man that truly hears God, he was not just one of those Apostles, he was great and if he didn’t hear from God, I won’t be here.
“The covenant God gave him is what we are still executing in RCCG till today. We had a good head who had a covenant with God.”
