Paris Attacks: Belgian Footballer Mistaken For A Terrorist

1 Min Read

After Friday’s attacks on the French capital, Paris, a large part of Europe went into high security alert to guard against such happenings on their territories.

As the time was earmarked as FIFA’s international break, many European countries that had fixed friendly games for the period had them cancelled.

The scheduled international friendly between Spain and Belgium fell into this category.

After the game was called off, a Belgian player who currently plays for Roma, Radja Nainggolan, was mistaken for a terrorist.

The player had returned to his hotel room to find four policemen waiting for him.

According to MARCA quoting Belgian French-language newspaper daily La Dernière Heure (The Latest Hour), many hotel guests had called the police saying Nainggolan looked “suspicious and dangerous”.

Luckily for the 27-year-old, the policemen confirmed his identity, and some of them even recognised him straight away.

The policemen then posed for a photo with him, a photo his friend Naoufal Attar uploaded on Facebook with the caption: “People called the cops on Nainggolan because they thought he looked suspicious”.
