Inhabitants of Phalaborwa community in South Africa have been thrown into a panic mood after a total of 14 lions made their way out of the very popular game reserve, Kruger National Park.
According to the reports which were aired on Friday by radio stations in the Limpopo area of the country, the incident occurred yesterday, June 6, and appropriate security agencies have been informed.
Yet, residents were advised to stay safe and remain very vigilant.
A statement released by the Limpopo government has also confirmed the incident as it warned that the lions were sighted around the Foskor Mine area of Phalaborwa.
Equally, the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism (LEDET) said in a statement, “It is suspected that the lions escaped from Kruger National Park. The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism has allocated field rangers to closely monitor the pride’s movement prior action to be taken.
“A meeting held between LEDET, The Kruger National Park and Greater Balule concluded that the lions are to be captured and released back at Kruger National Park. Employees at Foskor Mine and members of the public are hereby advised to be alert at all times.”
Before the latest incident, a leopard is said to have killed a 2-year-old boy in the same park.
