Twitter was in a pandemonium yesterday as Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote joined Twitter. Before even unleashing a single tweet, the man whose fortune is estimated at north of $23.8 billion by Bloomberg, had gained over 10,000 followers.

As at press time, Dangote has 16,985 followers and counting. Despite many Nigerians seeking for a follow back from Dangote, he is only following 7 people which include fellow billionaire Bill Gates, former GM boss, Jack Welch and Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of General Electric.

His first tweet which was posted just after midnight on January 1, 2014 read, “Glad to be on Twitter. Wishing you all a prosperous New Year. Stay positively committed to achieving your dreams, nothing is impossible.”
