Handcuffed Prisoner

The police on Wednesday arraigned a painter, Oluwadamilare Adesanwo, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two cell phones valued at N99,000 belonging to one Mr Ayodele Ajayi.

Adesanwo,28, who lives at No. 32, Aiyeniwa St., Owode-Elede Road, Mile 2, Lagos, is charged with stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Hafsat Ajibode, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 15, at Ketu Bus Stop, along Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

She said that the accused stole the phones from Ajayi’s daughter when she was asking him for direction.

Ajibode said that when the girl alerted passers-by, the accused was apprehended and handed over to the police.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised), which stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Anifowoshe said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government, and have their addresses verified by the court.

She adjourned the case until May 16 for mention.
