Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin, the President, Defence and Police Wives Association (DPOWA), on Tuesday said Oyo State had witnessed unprecedented transformation under Gov. Abiola Ajimobi’s leadership.

Olonisakin, who is the wife of Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), made the assertion during a courtesy call on the governor in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olonisakin had led a delegation of DPOWA on the visit.

DPOWA, formerly known as Joint Armed Forces and Police Officers’ Wives Consultative Committee, was established in the 70s.

Olonisakin said that the infrastructural development and other laudable projects on ground in the state remained an evidence of Ajimobi’s giant strides.

“This giant strides is worthy of emulation and commendation. I am familiar with Ibadan in the past before I left the shore of the country.

“I was in Ibadan after returning, but could not actually recognise many places again.

“When I returned home, I told my husband that there is big transformation in Ibadan,” she said.

The DPOWA president said that the visit was to express solidarity to the governor in his unrelenting efforts to pave a new way forward for the people of Oyo State and Nigeria.

“We also want to key into your three points agenda of restoration, transformation and repositioning of Oyo State,” she said.

Olonisakin called for the support of the governor to the association and women in general, saying that such had led to the protection of women and child’s rights.

She assured the governor that members of the association would continue to encourage and support their spouses in their task of securing and defending the nation’s democracy.

“We pledge our unflinching loyalty and support. We appreciate your fatherly roles in the state and to humanity. We wish you God’s continuous blessings and protection,” she said.

In his response, Ajimobi said that it gladdens his heart seeing wives of officers to support the development of the country.

The governor said the security situation in the country called for collective effort, saying that his administration had ensured that the state was one of the most secured.

He assured them of his administration’s continuous support to the association and other women associations in their unrelenting efforts for a greater Nigeria. (NAN)
