The outgoing President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, says the association would sanction any lawyer caught in the act of vandalism, stealing and assault during the fracas that ensued at the Accreditation Centre for the NBA conference on Tuesday evening.
Akpata, whose tenure expires today, decried the violent action of the conferees whom he said stole phones and bags and beat up staff.
Recall that videos that circulated on social media showed the lawyers going on a rampage over the delivery of conference bags.

Akpata said that the action of the rioters brought shame to the association and the nation at large.
He said that experts would be engaged to analyse video evidence of the incident and anyone found culpable would face sanctions.
The NBA president said, “Our colleagues stole bags. Our colleagues stole phones. Our colleagues beat up staff because we have video evidence.
“We’re going to get the experts to look through those videos and you have my assurance, and you have (incoming NBA President) YC (Maikyau)’s assurance that anybody found culpable for embarrassing our association and our nation like this will definitely be sanctioned.”
