Our Child has No Gender, It’s a “Theyby”!- Couple states

3 Min Read

With the dawn of each new day, humans tend to push nature’s boundaries even further. A couple have decided to keep the gender of their baby to themselves by refusing to declare if the child is male or female but rather insisting that they want to raise their child in a gender free environment and this includes not limiting the child to a specific gender according to nature.

Kyl and Brent Myer are part of the Gender Creative Parenting movement and have decided to raise their child, that they’ve named “Zoomer,” in a gender-neutral environment.

Having made a conscious decision not to tell people if zoomer is a boy or a girl, they have decided to call the little toddler a “theyby.”

The Myers who say they are practicing modern parenting revealed that other than the immediate family, they don’t disclose the sex of their children to people who don’t need to know.

The couple has also opted to use gender-neutral pronouns when referring to their little one, like they/them/their. They say they decided it was best for the child because they wanted to unburden the baby from being “pigeon-holed” as a specific gender.

Kyl started a blog Raising Zoomer where she writes posts regarding her experience raising the child. In one of the blog posts, Kyl said,

“The sex does not tell us anything about the child’s personality, temperament, favorite color, dietary preferences, sense of humor, attitudes toward climate change, or any of their other unique traits. Just like the fact they have two arms doesn’t tell us anything else about them, except they have two arms.”

The parents have however acknowledged that when the time comes, they will not be able to stop Zoomer from identifying with a particular gender stressing that they weren’t preventing the child from expressing any gender-specific preferences.

“Zoomer will most likely choose a gender by the time they are three or four. We simply don’t believe that is our decision to make on their behalf. By not revealing their sex, and by treating them in a gender creative way, Z will have the freedom to explore and create their own identity, outside of the restrictions and expectations of traditional gender norms.”

It remains to be seen what gender will be ticked in the birth certificate of zoomer however as the parents have refused to categorise the child within a specific gender.
