Osun Govt Ban Treatment of COVID-19 Patients By Private Hospitals

Osun State Government has emphasised its warning against treatment of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases by doctors in private hospitals.

 

The warning was reiterated by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation in Osun State, Funke Egbemode during a public announcement on Thursday, who also stated that violation of the directive would attract prosecution by the State Government.

 

Egbemode said;

 

“The State Government of Osun has reiterated that private hospitals across the State are NOT ALLOWED to treat COVID-19 patients, whether suspected or confirmed.

 

“The State has recognised, accredited and adequate Government facilities with the required personnel to take care of patients, whether suspected or confirmed, at its Isolation and Care Centres. Testing and treatment are free in all government facilities.”

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old medical doctor has been reported as the first health worker to die of coronavirus in Nigeria.

 

Reports claim that the doctor contacted the virus after attempting to treat a patient with Coronavirus in a private hospital in Lagos and was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital after showing symptom of the virus.

 

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Prof Wasiu Adeyemo, who confirmed the death of the doctor, who’s name was withheld, in a statement disclosed that the doctor was not a staff of the hospital but was rushed to the facility after he showed symptoms of the disease.
