Osinbajo may sign 2017 budget as Senate receives report

2 Min Read

The 2017 budget report has been submitted to the Senate by the joint committees of appropriation and finance.

Danjuma Goje, chairman of the appropriation committee, laid the report before the upper legilsative chamber on Tuesday.

The document was supposed to be presented on Thursday but it was postponed to this week to enable the committees of appropriation in the senate and house of representatives to make final edits.

“They are meeting with the house committee on appropriation to cross the Ts and dot the Is of the 2017 budget by harmonising and I have also been informed that by the grace of God, the budget 2017 will be laid on Tuesday,” Ahmed Lawan, senate leader, had said last week.

Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, had also said the committees were putting final touches to the report so that the national assembly could transmit it to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

In a similar vein, the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo most likely to sign the 2017 budget into law should the document be passed by the National Assembly anytime soon.

The same goes for the swearing in of the two minister-designates, who had been screened and confirmed by the Senate.

The source said: “Look, the President, before leaving, had briefed Osinbajo. He had empowered him to do certain things on his behalf. Both had some discussions on a wide range of issues. So, those things may be part of what they discussed.”
