Osinbajo hints FG will adopt initiative similar to YOUWIN

Nigerian youth interested in information communication technology may just have some major news to smile about.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in an interview with CNBC Africa on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Saturday, has said that the Federal Government will finance young Nigerians with innovative ideas to start tech businesses.

Speaking on some areas of concentration for this administration as regards economic plans and policies, Osinbajo said Agriculture and freeholder farming would also be encouraged in order to incentivize youth to engage in agriculture and boost the GDP of the country.

“…Then ofcourse technology. We have a young population who is probably some of the smartest in the world and they are focused and we are looking at funding for start ups and all of that. We have a few good examples already. A few small industrial parks in Lagos and Port Harcourt and we hope to encourage those and widen the scope. It should do very very well,” the vice president said.

The scheme, according to some public affairs analysts, is seemingly a continuation of a similar program entitled Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria, which was set up by the Goodluck Jonathan administration to support young people with innovative ideas with start up funding.
