Tosin Oribamise of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) sports club on Friday defeated Delta’s Ajoke Ojomu 3-1 at the ongoing 15th Aso Table Tennis Club Championships.
Oribamise won in the round of 16 to advance to the quarter-final round of the women’s singles event of the competition holding in Abuja.
The championships taking place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium is being held in collaboration with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oribamise won the match 9-11 11-7 11-8 11-9.
Both players struggled to outsmart each other, with excellent serves on their part, but Oribamise was better and faster than Ojomu.
At the end of the match, the number four-ranked Oribamise told NAN that she was happy to have won the match in spite of her opponent’s quality.
“I am happy that I won the match. When I found out that I was going to play against Ojomu, I decided to work harder and improve myself and I am happy I made it.
“She is a good player and I wish her well in her career,” Oribamise said.
“My previous matches here were tough, but this particular match was tougher because we (she and Ojomu) always meet each other at this difficult stage of round of 16,” she added.
