Opposition Will Keep Us on Track – Oyegun

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said that the party needs a virile opposition that will keep it on track.

Oyegun said this when the former president of Niger Republic, Alhaji Mamman Usman, paid him a congratulatory visit at the party’s headquarters.

Oyegun said democracy should allow for opposition to thrive so as provide the people with a choice in a free and fair manner.

He recalled that efforts by party leaders to form a coalition in Nigeria has not been an easy one, it has always been frustrated by ruling parties.

He advised the former Niger president that “All leaders of the 16 political parties that formed alliance in Niger must be ready to subjugate. “That is when the people of Niger will now have choice. We hope every nation in the continent will need from our example.”

The former Nigerien President, Mamman Usman, who is also the leader of conference of 16 opposition political parties in Niger, said apart from coming to congratulate the party on its victory, they have come to learn on how the APC emerged from the opposition party to the ruling party.

He added that neighbouring African countries followed Nigeria’s general elections with a lot of fear of what will happen during and after the elections.

He said “I was one of those who have seen the result of the election even before the official announcement of the result.”
