Ooni forgives Igboho, promises support

3 Min Read

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi says he has forgiven Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho for insulting him during a live interview that its video went viral recently.

Spokesman to the revered monarch, Moses Olafare conveyed Ooni’s stance on Thursday.

Recall that Igboho said the traditional ruler disappointed the Yoruba nation by allegedly failing to tell President Muhammadu Buhari the truth about the atrocities criminal Fulani herdsmen commit in the South-West zone when he met the president at the State House, Abuja recently.

The Yoruba activist had become incensed when, after leaving the meeting with Buhari, Ooni Ogunwusi advised him not to take laws into his hands but allow constituted authorities to handle the security challenges in Yorubaland.

After calling the traditional ruler unprintable names over the matter, Igboho later apologised, saying that everything he said against the Ooni was said in the “heat of the moment”.

Reacting, Olafare said that Ooni Ogunwusi had taken the insults in his strides.

He noted that the monarch was still “solidly behind” Igboho in his bid to send criminal herdsmen packing from the South-West.

Explaining why the monarch was silent on the Yoruba activist’s insults, Olafare said: “it is not in the style of the Ooni to make an official response on any matter that threatens the unity and peace of the country, especially as it affects the descendants of Oduduwa worldwide”.

He added, “Sunday Igboho still remains a son to the Ooni. Baba has already forgiven him because he had tendered an apology via a video clip he produced via social media yesterday evening.

“The royal father could not bicker with any of his sons even in the face of quantum of provocations.

“Sunday Igboho thereafter released the video in which he tendered his apology. Even though the way and manner Sunday had behaved was sacrilegious to the Oduduwa throne but he has already apologised and I can confirm that Arole Oodua has forgiven him, because, there is no perfection in humanity. Sunday is a human being like any other normal human being who could misbehave as well. No one is perfect!

“As the father of all, the Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula remains his father who had even identified with him in the past two weeks he had begun with the struggle and he is still solidly behind him for the liberation of the Yorubas from criminal herdsmen who have adamantly terrorised our land. Just that he must watch his back so that people with ulterior motives will not hijack his movement.”

He urged everyone to move on from the incident since Igboho has already apologised and secured his forgiven.
