The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, has appointed a new Obalufe, Comrade Olaniyi Adediwura.
The Obalufe title is the second-in-command to the Ooni.
Comrade Adediruwa, 49, replaces the late Oba Folorunsho Omisakin, who died in October 2015.
The Obalufe designate, who hails from Ajagbusi Royal House of Orunto in Ile Ife, was before his appointment a leading trade unionist.
The Obalufe designate was appointed following consultation with the government, kingmakers and other relevant stakeholders, and in line with the customs and traditions of the land, a statement from the Ooni’s palace said.
