Military personnel in Ondo State are fast becoming targets of kidnappers seeking quick money.
Barely a week after Army Captain, D. Gana, who was abducted by suspected herdsmen along Auga/Akunnu highway in Akoko North-East LGA of Ondo State on May 13, regained his freedom, a Naval officer has also been kidnapped.
The Naval officer was said to be travelling to Abuja when some unknown gunmen waylaid him at Ose/Oba Akoko highway in Akoko North-East council area of Ondo State.
They then whisked him to an undisclosed location.
Reports say the kidnappers have contacted the victim’s family to demand N50 million ransom.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the Naval officer’s abduction.
According to the police image-maker, “various tactical squads have been deployed to man the area.
“The police have sought the support of the host communities in a bid to checkmate and curtail crime on the said road.”
But he urged travellers on the road “to be security conscious while on transit. The job of effective crime prevention, detection and control is for everybody and not for the police alone.”
A joint military/police team has reportedly been deployed to comb the nearby bushes in search of the kidnappers.
