Kingsley Okorie, one-half of the well-known Nigerian highlife group, The Cavemen, recently opened up about his professional journey in the music industry during an interview on The Nancy Isime Show. Despite being licensed to practice law, he chose to pursue his passion for music instead, alongside his brother and bandmate, Benjamin Okorie.
After completing law school, Kingsley realized that his true calling had always been music. Reflecting on his experience during a civil litigation class in Kano, he felt disconnected from his desired music scene in Lagos and Abuja and likened his situation to being in a cave, thus giving birth to the name “The Cavemen,” as suggested by his supportive brother.
In contrast to Kingsley, Benjamin made the bold decision not to attend a conventional university. Instead, he followed his passion for music from a young age and attended a music school for two years. The unwavering support of their family allowed Benjamin to embrace his musical talent without feeling pressured to follow a traditional career path.
With both brothers pursuing their passion for music, they reunited after their respective journeys and formed The Cavemen. Their musical talents have become a means to support their family, showcasing the power of following one’s passion and turning it into a fruitful career.
