Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has expressed extreme displeasure at the circulation of an alcoholic drink with his political nickname ‘Aketi’ on its label in the state.
A whiskey drink with the name Aketi and the logo of the Ondo state Government was seen on social media.
In his reaction, Akeredolu alleged that a plan was afoot to discredit and malign his name before the October 10 Governorship election in the state.
He distanced himself from the production, naming and circulation of the drink saying it wasn’t his idea nor was it for his re-election campaign.

Speaking through his special assistant on media, Ojo Oyewamide, Akeredolu said he led a modest lifestyle which was not ostentatious.
Oyewamide also said an investigation has commenced into the source of the drink.
“Those behind the grand plot are desperate power mongers who will stop at nothing to create despicable and imaginary scenarios to play their game”. The statement said.
“The motive is to create the impression that so much State money has been spent to produce the whiskey”. It noted further.
“More are expected from these political scavengers on an impossible mission”.
“Mr. Governor, having been briefed of this devious act, has taken steps to unravel those behind it through lawful means”, the statement concluded.
