The Ondo Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure has nullified the election of the House of Representatives member representing Ilaje/Ese odo federal constituency, Hon. Kolade Akinjo.
The tribunal led by Justice Anthony Ogar nullifeid Akinjo’s election on Tuesday for substantial non-compliance with the electoral act.
Akinjo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was ruled not to be qualified to represent the party because he was still an active member of another political party when he contested and won the March 28 election.
He was a member of the Labour Party before decamping to the PDP with the state governor and represented the party in the inconclusive election in the constituency in 2014 before making the switch to the PDP.
He was duly declared the winner of the March 28 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after winning the highest number of lawful votes under the platform of the PDP.
The All Progressives Congress candidate, Luck Ayedatiwa approached the tribunal to nullify Akinjo’s election on the grounds that he did not obtain the necessary waivers from the PDP to contest under the party in the election.
The tribunal therefore held that Akinjo was not duly nominated by the PDP and cancelled his election.
