The Owo town in Ondo State on Wednesday was thrown into a crisis mode when members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) went on the rampage, disrupting commercial activities within the town for over four hours.
It was gathered that the crisis was over the leadership of the union in the area when a faction attempted to unseat the current executive.
Most shops and commercial centres around Ehinogbe and First Molac Hotel area of the town hurriedly closed for the day as members of the drivers union attacked themselves with cutlasses and guns in the area.
No fewer than 10 people were injured during the fracas that was allegedly sponsored by some politicians in the town.
According to an eyewitness, trouble started when a group of members of the union led by one man called ‘Jugunnu’ announced himself as the new Chairman of the union in the town.
The group chased away the current executive leadership of NURTW of the council led by Kolade Jasper from office. They then moved around, threatening to deal with any member of the executive

The fight was said to have spread to Ehinogbe area and it took the intervention of the mobile policemen to restore normalcy in the town.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, but said the police were on top of the situation.
The PPRO, however, said policemen had restored peace in the town.
