The Government of Ondo State has kicked against the two-day strike action embarked upon by labour union in the state.
Describing the strike as baseless, Dr. Rotimi Adelola, the Secretary the State Government on Wednesday, said the government had already resolved the points of conflict that could have warranted the strike.
“The Ondo State Government was embarrassed to discover today that the labour union went on strike when it was apparent that there were no major issues in contention,” the statement read.
Furthermore, it was explained in the statement that the government stretched the state’s purse to be able to meet demands such as payment of union dues, cooperative and loans for May and June.
Adelola stated: “In the bid to ensure that workers in the state are paid despite the present economic challenges, the government joined other states to obtain a bailout loan to the tune of N14.6bn for both state and local governments which will be enough to cover outstanding salaries up to August.”
Civil servants in Ondo embarked on a two-day strike beginning from Wednesday to press home their demands for the payment of two-month salary arrears owed them by the state government.
