The Ondo State Government on Thursday assured state workers of regular payment of salaries, promotion, training and retraining and the provision of a suitable working environment.
Mr Dare Aragbaiye, Head of Service, Ondo State, gave the assurance in Akure while receiving newly-elected leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ondo State Chapter.
Aragbaiye said regular payment of salaries, promotion and others would further enhance quality service delivery to the people of the state.
He noted that in spite of the dwindling allocation from the Federation Account, the present administration had evolved strategies to increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
According to him, the increase in IGR will enable the government to improve the welfare of workers as well as achieve outstanding infrastructure development of the state.
The head of the service congratulated the new executive officers of the union, saying the government did not interfere in the selection of union leaders in order to gain the confidence of their members.
“This will also improve the working relationship between the union and the government.
“This administration is poised to remove all bureaucratic bottlenecks to the career progression of workers in the state.
“Workers should also desist from obtaining loans that would make their monthly take-home pay inadequate for their families,’’ Aragbaiye said.
Earlier, Mr Bola Taiwo, President of the union, commended the present administration for prioritising workers’ welfare in the state, particularly with the payment of six of seven months’ salary arrears owed by the immediate past administration.
He also commended the payment of salary as and when due, regular promotion and granting of conversion requests, among others.
Taiwo highlighted the demands of the union and pledged continuous support to the state government to achieve laudable developmental programmes for the people of the state.
