Ondo CJ accuses Akeredolu, House of Assembly of plotting to unseat her

Justice Akeredolu

The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu, has secured temporary relief against what she said was an illegal plot to remove her from office.

This is as Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted an ex-parte application the CJ filed through her counsel, Jibrin Okutepa SAN to stop Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State House of Assembly, the Attorney-General of the state and three others from going ahead with her probe in connection to the viral video of her half-brother, Olupelumi Fagboyegun.

Others affected by the restraining order were the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Judicial Council and the Inspector-General of Police.

Fagboyegun had accused the CJ of using the state’s judiciary to detain him illegally for more than three years, but the state’s judiciary vehemently denied the allegation.

The CJ through her counsel told the court that the state government’s decision to refer the allegations against her and the state’s judiciary by Fagboyegun to the House of Assembly for investigation was nothing but an illegal plot to remove her from office.

After listening to the CJ’s counsel, Justice Ekwo granted all the four principal reliefs sought and ordered the service of all originating processes in the suit on the defendants.

The judge adjourned the case till March 5, 2021, for hearing of the plaintiff’s motion on notice.
