The Ondo State House of Assembly has commenced the process of removing the state deputy governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over alleged gross misconduct.
The Herald understands that the house served Aiyedatiwa the notice on Wednesday after an emergency plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Olamide Oladiji and signed by nine out of the 17 members of the House in Akure.
Recall that Aiyedatiwa acted as governor while Governor Rotimi Akeredolu went abroad for medical treatment. He acted between June 13 and September 9 when the governor returned.
Raising the motion, the Majority Leader of the House, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, quoted Section 188 of the constitution to back up his call that the Assembly should summon the deputy governor to respond to the allegations against him.
The motion was seconded by the lawmaker representing Akoko South-West Constituency 2, Tope Agbulu.
The House subsequently directed the Clerk, Mr Benjamin Jaiyeola, to communicate the invitation of the House to Aiyedatiwa.
Meanwhile, Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law has described the move as a gang-up, adding that Aiyedatiwa played his role very well and any move to impeach him would be rejected.
“The stupidity they are about to perpetrate in Ondo State should be rejected by any patriotic indigene of the State. The constant disregard for due process because of a few selfish people will not be tolerated. The abuse of power and gang up against the deputy governor who has played his role with loyalty will be rejected.
“The House of Assembly members pushing for the impeachment of the deputy governor will be shamed. I will name all of you and put you on a blast. I promise you. All of you who have been induced monetarily to carry out this act will regret it.
“Wole Ogunmolasuyi, your selfishness and self-serving ego will ruin you if you don’t take time. I am coming back to you. Ondo State belongs to every indigene of the State, not a local government. Beware,” he wrote via his account on the X platform late on Wednesday.
