Political party, the Social Democratic Party has stated that Senator Iyiola Omisore snubbed the chance to become the party’s candidate for a senatorial seat
According to the Punch, the Secretary of the SDP in Osun State, Mr Taiwo Akeju said this during an interview with the News agency.
“Omisore didn’t inform us that he was interested. If he did, we could have considered him but he did not.” said Akeju
“Omisore is one of the prominent leaders of the SDP and we have no quarrel with him. But the truth is that he did not present himself for senatorial election. He has not presented himself for any post after the governorship election. You know that he was our candidate in the Osun governorship election and he did well.
“I think he wants to give other people an opportunity to be elected, he doesn’t have interest in the senatorial election.”

The former governor was running for the office under the aegis of the SDP before pulling out of the race to support Gbenga Oyetola, APC’s representative, in the elections.
Oyetola won the election at the expense of close rival, Ademola Adeleke of the PDP and many speculate that Omisore’s endorsement went a long way in ensuring this.
According to reports, one of the terms with which to secure his support was a chance to run for Senate under the APC, however, his name was not on the list of candidates submitted by the ruling party to INEC for Senatorial consideration.
