In a recent interview with 234Times, Nigerian Afropop artist Omah Lay delved into the deeper meaning behind his hit song “Soso” and shared his state of mind during its creation.
The interviewer asked Omah Lay about the lyrics “water no get enemy, till you fall for oshimiri,” to which the artist responded by explaining that while water is often thought of as harmless, it can be deadly when one falls into an ocean. Omah Lay further explained that “Oshimiri” refers to a river and that when you find yourself in a small puddle of water, it can quickly turn into an enemy.

The interviewer then asked Omah Lay about his inspiration for the song, to which he revealed that he was in a lot of pain and was suffering from depression at the time of recording. He explained that he was smoking heavily and going through a difficult time, and the song was born out of that state of mind.
Omah Lay’s debut album, “Boy Alone,” was released in July of last year and was well-received by music fans and critics alike. The album showcased the artist’s vulnerability and cemented his place as a rising star in the Nigerian music industry.
