A nine-year-old boy, Joseph Oluamachi Opara, has become famous after a video of him singing euphoniously went viral on social media.

In the video, Oluamachi’s beautiful rendition of Catholic hymn songs marked him out as a specially-talented young singer.

So famous has the young Igbo hawker become that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and incumbent Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma have vowed to support him to any extent.

On Sunday, Uzodinma announced the adoption of the Mbaise-born singing sensation as his child and said he would personally sponsor him from primary school to Catholic priesthood, since he has expressed the desire to become a priest.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Imo, Declan Emelumba addressed the Opara family in Nekede Mechanic Village in Owerri on behalf of the governor on Sunday.

He said, “His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was so excited after listening to the video of Master Opara that he directed me to locate you and inform you that from today Joseph is now his child and that since he wants to become a Catholic priest, he will take up the responsibility of training him from his present Primary 4 class until he is ordained a priest.”

Sharing a video of the kid singing sensation on Twitter, Peter Obi also vowed to support the young boy.

In a personally signed message, Obi wrote, “I have followed with interest the reactions to the video of the singing Oluamachi. What a demonstration of God’s gift! I thank all those that have shown interest in helping him through various means.

“I thank in a special way, the Superior General of S.M.M.M, Rev. Fr. George Okorie, for the scholarship given Oluamachi to study in their Seminary at Bende, to realise his noble ambition of being a priest.

“I shall make myself available to support any worthwhile effort to attaining his praise-worthy ambition.”
