2 Min Read

Iconic rapper Olamide Baddo has released his highly anticipated new project titled ‘Ikigai’. For over a decade, Olamide has captivated listeners with his music, solidifying his status as one of the greatest Nigerian artists of the modern era.

On June 26, 2024, Olamide announced the project on his social media, just hours after making a surprise performance at Davido and Chioma’s wedding. The 7-track EP, named ‘Ikigai’—a Japanese term meaning “reason for being” or “life’s purpose”—features collaborations with YBNL superstars Fireboy and Asake on the track ‘Uptown Disco’. Additionally, former YBNL associates Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh join him on ‘Synchro System’.

‘Ikigai’ marks Olamide’s 10th solo project and 15th overall, further expanding his impressive discography. His album ‘Carpe Diem’ holds the record for the most streamed album by a Nigerian rapper on Spotify Nigeria.

In 2023, Olamide released his 9th solo album ‘Unruly’, which includes hit tracks like ‘Jinja’, ‘Trumpet’ featuring CKay, and ‘New Religion’ featuring Asake. His achievements as a hip-hop icon, hitmaker, and successful label boss are underscored by his historic award-winning feats, including being the most streamed African rapper on Spotify.

With ‘Ikigai’, Olamide continues to add new chapters to his legacy in Nigerian music, following his 2023 milestone as the first Nigerian rapper to be nominated for the Grammys.
