Olakira, the 32-year-old music producer and singer known for his hit track ‘Maserati,’ recently opened up about a significant incident from his past during a candid interview with TVC. He revealed that he faced expulsion from a church where he was a gospel singer due to engaging in intimate relationships with four choristers. This unfortunate event took a toll on his mental well-being, leading him into a period of depression, which ultimately prompted him to seek therapy to cope with the aftermath.
In his own words, Olakira expressed the impact of the incident, saying, “I had my own issues as well. I got depressed at some point. I was unable to focus at some point. Everybody has their own struggles. I was a gospel artiste some years back and had some experiences with ladies. Being involved with about four choristers led to my dismissal from the church.”
Following his expulsion, Olakira went through a significant transition in his musical career. He made the bold decision to venture into secular music, leaving behind the gospel genre that had been an integral part of his life. He explained, “You know when you sing in church and you are playing the keyboard, people get inspired. However, when I transitioned into the secular world, everything changed. The whole atmosphere was different, and I found it overwhelming. This prompted me to seek therapy to cope with the distractions and challenges.”
Olakira’s revelation sheds light on the complexities of his personal journey, which shaped his decisions and path as a musician. Growing up in a household raised by a single mother, he admitted to feeling more comfortable and at ease in the presence of women than men, which may have played a role in his interactions with female choristers.
