Okowa calls for govt./private sector partnership to revive economy

2 Min Read
Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Sunday said his administration inherited about N100 billion unpaid pensions under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Monday called for greater partnership between government and the private sector to rejuvenate the country’s economy.

Okowa made the call on Monday when South Africa’s Consul-General in Nigeria, Mr Darkey Africa, visited him in Asaba.

He expressed satisfaction that some South African investors had indicated interest in establishing a tertiary health facility in the state.

According to him, some others are seeking partnership with the state in the area of agriculture and mining.
“We are carrying out advocacy to private investors in order to develop our state and we are happy with the involvement of South Africans in our developmental programmes.

“Some South African investors intend to build a tertiary hospital in our state while some have come to partner with us in the area of agriculture.

“We know that South Africa has been involved in mining for a very long time, so, your presence will be appreciated in that area in our quest to diversify our economy,” the governor said.
Okowa said that in order to strengthen partnership with investors, the State House of Assembly was working to strengthen the State Investment Development Agency Law.

He commended South Africa for encouraging partnership between the country and Delta State, assuring that his administration would always provide the enabling environment for investments to thrive.
Earlier, the Consul General said that he was in the state to explore areas of partnership between his country and the state.

He disclosed that South Africa had experts in many fields including agriculture, energy and mining.
The envoy commended Okowa’s administration for encouraging the establishment of commercial farms in the state. (NAN)
