Okocha’s Nephew Iwobi of Arsenal FC to Play for Nigeria

1 Min Read

Nephew of Austin ‘Jay Jay’  Okocha, Alex Iwobi has been invited to play for the Super Eagles by Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh.

The 19-year-old Arsenal forward will be expected to feature in the double-header against Democratic Republic of Congo on October 8 and Cameroon on October 11.

Although the youngster has played for the English youth team, world football governing body FIFA ruled that he was qualified to play for Nigeria, his father’s country, because he was yet to play for England at the senior level.

It will be recalled that Sunday Oliseh earlier invited another England-based player, Liverpool’s Jordan Ibe, who also has a Nigerian father but the youngster opted to play for England instead.

Iwobi trained with the Nigeria U-23 side back in March but is yet to play for either country at the senior level.
