2023: “Don’t accept to be a spare tyre anymore” – Ohanaeze warns Peter Obi, others against VP slot

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has advised 2023 presidential aspirants from the South-East zone not to accept to be vice-presidential candidates to anyone.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group issued the warning shortly after reports circulated that a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Peter Obi was considering becoming running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Recall that Obi was running mate to Atiku under the PDP platform in the 2019 presidential race.

Speaking through a press statement on Wednesday, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said that neither Obi nor any other Igbo politician must settle for the VP slot in 2023.

He said that the youths of the zone would not support any Igbo politician that settles for VP slot.

“Speculation has been rife that Mr. Peter Obi, Okwute Ndigbo has accepted to be Atiku’s running mate and we cannot ignore it again.

“This is why we are sounding a note of warning that neither Obi nor any other Igbo man or woman should jettison this project. They should not accept to be a spare tyre anymore.

“No Igbo man should be cajoled out of this race because we are part and parcel of this country. If it is otherwise, this is the time to let us know and we will take our fate in our hands.

“We are saying for the umpteenth time that both the APC and the PDP should micro-zone their presidential tickets to the South-East. Anything short of that is unacceptable,” he said.
