The Ogun State Police Command said it has arrested three persons on suspicion of human trafficking, after they were found with 26 children aged between eight and 10 years, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
The suspects were apprehended on Sunday on a tip-off at the Ibafo motor park, while trying to move the children from Ogun to Lagos state.
The Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists in the state capital, Abeokuta.
Ali identified the suspects as Zainab Ahmed (18), Aisha Abdulahi (55) and Zuliat Abdulmalik (45).
According to him, the suspects claimed they were taking the children, 25 girls and one boy, to Lagos to be given menial jobs.
He said the command decided to arrest the suspects and conduct thorough investigations in light of present-day security challenges where children are used as suicide bombers.
