Ogun Guber: Group Urges APM Candidate To Shelve Planned Legal Challenge Of Result

Ogun Patriotic Front (OPF), a socio-political group, has urged the candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM) in the March 9 governorship poll to shelve his planned legal challenge of the election result.

In a statement on Monday in Abeokuta, the group’s Executive Director, Dr Ibikunle Oredipe, urged APM’s Adekunle Akinlade to accept the result of the poll and congratulate the governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oredipe noted that the election result indicated wide acceptance of Abiodun in the 20 local government areas of the state with clear win for APC in more than half of the council areas.

He also observed that the final result presented a good performance by the APM candidate in the election and congratulated him for putting himself forward to serve the state.

The group called on Akinlade to reciprocate the hand of fellowship extended by the governor-elect to other contestants, saying that “only one candidate can emerge as the winner from the poll and become the governor”.

“We hereby call on the APM candidate to call off his plan to challenge the result of the governorship election in court.

“We urge him to toe the path of other leading contestants like Sen. Buruji Kashamu (PDP) and Gboyega Isiaka (ADC) who have already accepted the result and congratulated the governor-elect,” he said.

The group lauded Abiodun’s humility and decision to priotise the delivery of his campaign promises over any probe of the current administration.

Oredipe also enjoined the governor-elect to consult widely on key state matters and run an all-inclusive government. (NAN)
