Although they escaped the onslaught of armed robbers in the now infamous Offa bank robbery attack of April 5, five workers in one of the affected banks have not escaped their employer’s attention.
They were reportedly sacked last Friday for releasing to the online media space a Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of robbers attacking the bank.
The management of the bank was said to have viewed the release as detrimental to the security and image of the bank.
The employees’ action in releasing the video without authorisation was also viewed as constituting “gross indiscipline”, a source in the bank was quoted as saying by The Punch.
The Offa robbery attack continues to generate controversies weeks after its occurrence, with many observers querying how the robbers were able to operate for at least an hour without being stopped by security agencies.
While the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Ado Lawan, has pegged casualty figures at 17, the Operations Commander, Vigilance Group of Nigeria , Offa , Kwara State chapter , Wasiu Adepoju, however , said vigilantes in the state counted 50 dead bodies.
