Odoh into early lead at West Africa Golf Tour Championship

Andrew Odoh, Nigeria’s number one ranked golfer is currently at the apex of the leaderboard of the West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT) Championship.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the WAGT Championship which teed-off on Friday would be concluded on Sunday at the Arsenal Golf Club, Obinze, Owerri, Imo.

Odoh is bidding to win his fourth WAGT title.

Chief Edwin Osuhor, the Rule Official, who confirmed the result to NAN in an interview on Saturday in Abuja, said “Odoh lead the rest of the pack at the end of the first round”.

“First round of the championship concluded with Nigerian Andrew Odoh scoring 4 under par (68) leading the field of 27 players participating at the last tournament of the 2016 season.

“Atako Morgan and Ghana’s Vincent Torgah shoot 2 under (70) to tie for the second position, while Mubasiru Sanusi finished 1 under (71) and sits in four position of the leaderboard.

“The three time winner and leader of the Order of Merit of the Tour, Odoh (Andrew), played yesterday for the first time in Arsenal Golf Course and becomes the first player ever to score under on the course,” he said.

NAN also reports that other West African countries participating in the tournament include Ghana, Senegal and Cameroon.

The total prize money for the championship is 25,000 dollars with the winner expected to pocket 4,500 dollars and 600 points for the Order of Merit. (NAN)
