The Labour Party (LP) says it is unaware of any apology issued by the British government or any of its agencies over last Friday’s detention of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi at Heathrow Airport in London.

Head of Obi-Datti Media, Diran Onifade confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.

“We would like to state emphatically that we are not aware of any such apology, and have not issued any statement whatsoever, in that regard,” he said.

However, he expressed confidence that the British government would resolve the matter amicably.

Recall that Obi’s associate, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna on Wednesday shared a Facebook post in which disclosed that the former Anambra governor was detained for hours at Heathrow Airport by immigration offiicals.

Okunna, who is currently Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, said that an Immigration Officer told Obi that his identity “was duplicated”.

In his statement, Onifade also confirmed the development.

However, he said that Obi and the party have moved on from the incident.

“Mr Peter Obi and the LP/PCC have since moved on from the incident and continue to be totally focused, on the legal processes before the Election Petition Tribunal towards the recovery of our mandate, which we are firmly convinced, was overwhelmingly expressed by voters, in the Presidential election of February 25th,” Onifade said.

The British government has not issued any statement on the matter.
