Popular Nigerian businessman, Obi Cubana, has finally spoken out about the false allegations that emerged when his wife, Ebele, fell ill shortly after giving birth.
In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Cubana recounted the distressing period when his wife developed a mysterious illness on Valentine’s Day, just three months after the birth of their son, Alex. At the time, Cubana was also in the midst of expanding his business empire.
“After my wife gave birth to Alex, something happened. On Valentine’s Day, she developed a strange illness. We were at the Hilton then, and Alex was three months old. My wife became numb, and at the time, I was building Cubana. We were managing it, but it became worse, so on the 15th, we were about to check it out, and she collapsed. We rushed her to the best hospital in Abuja,” Cubana shared.
A CT scan revealed that Ebele had a cyst in her brain, affecting the nerves controlling one side of her body. This diagnosis came at a time when Cubana’s businesses were thriving, leading to rumors and accusations that he had used his wife for money rituals.
“The discussions started, and people began saying things. Someone called me and said they heard people saying I used my wife for JuJu. I said, ‘What?’ And it was my so-called friends who said it. My focus was on getting my wife to be okay. She went to South Africa for treatment, and at a point, she was paralyzed halfway. I was flying to South Africa back and forth, and my wife was there for a year,” Cubana explained.
Despite the dire prognosis, Ebele remained determined and hopeful. “The doctor told me that my wife would not die but she wouldn’t be able to walk or give birth again. That night, I cried throughout, and my wife told me, ‘Obi, I will walk on my feet again, and I will train this baby.’ She proved everyone wrong; we had three more boys, and now you’d never see any sign of paralysis,” Cubana concluded.
