Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on his reelection.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Obaseki, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winner of Saturday’s polls.
He was declared winner with more than 307,000 votes on Sunday.
He defeated his main challenger and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who enjoyed the support of former Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Reacting, Atiku, who was 2019 presidential candidate of PDP, said the reelection was akin to a declaration of independence from godfatherism in the Nigerian polity.
The End of Godfatherism Has Come in Nigeria.
Atiku said, “There is a new dawn in Edo State, and the hard-won victory of @GovernorObaseki is not just a victory, but a Declaration of Independence from the anti-democratic forces of godfatherism and militarism. #EdoDecides2020”
